The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Andrew Airlie has worked on over 150 television and feature film projects during his extensive acting career. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Andrew moved to Toronto, before putting down roots in Vancouver.
The well-rounded performer completed a number of impressive scholarly programs before venturing on his acting career. He attended the University of Toronto, SUNY (Ulster) and George Mason University (Virginia), and graduated with a BA (History and Political Science) and a Master’s Degree (International Relations), both from the University of Toronto. He has also played Collegiate and semi-professional soccer in Canada, the U.S and Scotland.
From 2015-17 Andrew starred as Wolfgang McGee in the widely acclaimed CBC/Chris Haddock espionage series, “The Romeo Section.” He received a 2016 Leo Award nomination for his Lead Performance. Of his many television roles, another favorite is that of Mike Goss on ABC/CTV’s ‘Defying Gravity’.
In 2009 Andrew was nominated for a Leo Award for his Series Regular role as John Oliver in ‘Reaper’- a character and show he also loved. He greatly enjoyed the experience of guest starring on the pilot episode of the Fox hit series ‘House’, and a recurring role on the critically acclaimed CBC television series ‘Intelligence’. Other television credits include recurring roles on ‘Whistler’, ‘Saved’, ‘The 4400’, ‘Cedar Cove’ and guest star roles on ‘Fringe’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘Stargate’, ‘Caprica’, ‘Smallville’,’ The L Word’ and ‘Nancy Drew’.
One of Andrew’s favorite feature film experiences was working with a star-studded cast in the feature film ‘The Safety of Objects’, starring Glenn Close and Patricia Clarkson. He was also thrilled to work with the exceptionally talented team on ‘The Fifty Shades of Grey’ films. Other feature film credits include ‘Normal’, ‘The Butterfly Effect 2’ and ‘Fantastic Four’, to name only a few.
In recent years, Andrew has been one of the busiest and most in demand actors in Canada. Presently, he is also writing and producing his own material. He is collaborating with acclaimed British writer and film director, Peter Howitt (Sliding Doors, Laws of Attraction), writing a suspense/thriller film and pilots for television.
When he is not acting and managing his busy career Andrew enjoys spending his free moments traveling with his wife and two children. He also has a passion for photography, and is a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs and Glasgow Celtic fan.
